Abstract
The relationship between sin and natural disasters has been mentioned in numerous verses of the Holy Quran. These verses can be divided into two categories: First, the verses that deal with this relationship explicitly. In these verses sometimes the title of Zanb and Zonub is used, sometimes the names of sins such as atonement and falsehood and cruelty are used. The second category is the verses that Implicitly refer to this relationship. In these verses too, the titles that means what they have done are practically emphasized. In the view of Allameh Tabatabai, none of these verses has any explicit or similar implication on the relation of a particular sin to a particular natural catastrophic event. Allameh does not condemn the catastrophic natural disasters that afflict the general public, including the guilty and the innocent, but rather that most of them should be regarded as the result of human choices and actions. It is therefore not possible to identify a particular sin as the cause of the accident when such events occur, as it can provide an explanation on the basis of existing knowledge of nature.
